Local dialect use in music is not something new as it has been there ever since. However, in Hip Hop, it has continued to gather momentum especially with Luo rappers. Luo rap has become a dominant part of the Kenyan Hip Hop scene as new rappers continue to blossom while using that language.\

Luo rap is not something new as it started decades ago with the likes of Gidi Gidi. Big Pin was also another pioneer not forgetting the legendary Poxy Pressure who established himself using the language.

The industry has continued to grow with more rappers trying out to use their own language to pass messages through rap. We have had Luhya rap come up. Kikuyu and Kamba rap has also shown signs of growth, however, at the top, Luo rap still takes the lead.

New school rappers such as Japesa, Nick O’Sam, Luo Gong Zilla supported by old heads such as Vioxii Dede just to mention a few have continued to dominate Luo rap.

They have also been supported with the fact that most mainstream rappers are also Luos. Khaligraph Jones, who is currently the best rapper in the country, has given Luo rappers a chance to continue shining. Eric Omondi is also another Luo celebrity that has pushed artists with an example being an appearance in the Obongo Nyakalaga music video by Vioxii.

Octopizzo is also another Luo rapper who has had an influence on other rappers to step up. He is partly responsible for the growth of one of the most popular Luo rappers, Vicmass Luodollar.

Their marketing strategy has not been great but compared to their counterparts, they are still at the top.
