Scar Mkadinali: Freedom of Speech or Ignorance?

Wakadinali's Scar has come under fire for what most people concluded as an insensitive comment he made about the current femicide situation in the country. Scar Mkadinali suggested that women should be married by the age of 23 to avoid them being found in such situations. The debate raged when everyone weighed in with the thought that the Rong Rende member was out of topic in offering what he thought was advice. He got schooled by influencers and social media personalities including some few artists. This case is not an isolated event. Shaffie Weru, formerly of Kiss FM and Homeboyz Radio also saw himself get into trouble for making comments akin to what Scar Mkadinali said. This begs the question, is it freedom of speech or ignorance? The topic of discussion was hot given that there were different marches in various towns across Kenya on the same issue. There was outright disgust from most women when Scar spoke his mind. He was making an honest comment but it has so far landed him in trouble. The rapper was fried in his own oil bringing the group down with him. The star got almost all Kenyans dragging the whole group with him. Some have even vowed not to listen to Wakadinali ever again. But at the end of the day, should freedom of speech be only afforded to a few because it touches on sensitive topics? Should artists not be allowed to be normal human beings for a moment. They are not always set on a pedestal. They are humans too. Another thing that was pointed out beside the whole freedom of speech, is caution when it comes to expressing themselves. Scar is just an example of how freedom of speech and expression has evolved.
