Blaqbonez Shines as Khaligraph Jones Drops off the AFRIMMA Radar

Blaqbonez is the new African rap heavyweight as per the award he got last night. The Nigerian rapper won the Best African Rap act at the AFRIMMA awards that happened in Dallas on Sunday, September 17.

Khaligraph Jones, after winning the award two years ago, was not on the nomination list this time round. The list included:

Best Male Rap Act

  • Odumodu Black – Nigeria
  • Yung Lunya – Tanzania
  • Ninho – DR Congo
  • Black Sherif – Ghana
  • A-Reece – South Africa
  • Blaqbonez – Nigeria
  • Blxckie – South Africa
  • Marwan Moussa – Egypt

Tanzania’s shining star Young Lunya, who has a collaboration with the OG, also got a nod in the nominations. Blaqbonez, however, took home the award for the first time.

South African rapper AKA, who passed on early this year, received an award for the best male artist South Africa.

The female category also attracted another Kenyan rapper in Femi One. She won the award last year and she got another nomination this year.
