Kaveve Kazoze: Why Spider Clan will Continue Getting All the Hype

It has been 5 weeks since Gengetone group Spider Clan went viral with their massive hit, Kaveve Kazoze. Their lives have changed for the better as they continue to get deals left, right, and center. Led by Ngesh, the group had a show in Mombasa on Saturday, July 15 where the fans enjoyed their viral hit. Kenyan’s ability to support viral hits has enabled all this success despite the lack of content.

Kaveve Kazoze was an online hit that started as a viral short video shared and re-shared online. The video started making rounds and all of a sudden everything fell into place for the group. They started getting media interviews, shows and even landed an endorsement from Odibets last week.

The group went ahead and released a follow-up track to their original Kaveve Kazoze which catapulted them into stardom. The track is yet to be as successful as its predecessor yet the group continues to hit clubs.

Kenyans love content that goes viral and we have receipts to show for it. We have supported the likes of Alvindo, Stevo Simple Boy and their ilk. We have been there when comedians were clout chasing. We have bought tickets to events that made us regret being there.

It is our culture to consume content that does not necessarily fit our mindset. It is like turning off our brain cells so we can let go and end up appreciating dumb content. The music that is actually good and done by talented Kenyan artists is termed as “boring”. The artists that are talented barely get booked for shows unless they pull some clout chasing stunt.

This is why we will have Kaveve Kazoze for a while. They will survive. They will die later when another ‘viral’ artist comes up with a hit of some sorts and the cycle will continue.
